This Ring-billed Gull landed not
too far from me and started to
cough. I noticed that he had a
pretty thick neck. Another gull
flew at him, and he stopped. He
started to walk off, and when the
coast seemed clear, he began
coughing again. Then I realized
he was trying to bring up a fish.
Now he's gotten serious about it.
The fish is pretty stuck down
there...
This is not easy!
Definite progress. We can see
the whole tail...
And more...
And more...
The fish is almost out...
Here it comes...
Relief!
He reaches to pick it up when...
The aggressor is back! But, he
still has hold of his fish.
He holds the fish in his bill and
takes off with the thief in hot
pursuit.
