Carole Berglie first called me that she was looking at this bird on Sea Cliff Beach on the North Shore
of Long Island at 11:45 AM, August 28, 2011, during Hurricane Irene. She later told me that the bird
stuck around for about 2 hours until bathers on the beach got to be too much for it. She said it
preened a lot, but its aggressive response to a child that got too close demonstrated that it was feisty
and not as tired out as it first appeared. It would be of interest to know if anyone sees it again on Long
Island.
